Why is MoMA PS1 called PS1?
Image courtesy MoMA PS1. The PS1 acronym means Public School One and comes from the former destination of the building where the center is housed, once a schoolhouse. The PS1 was founded in 1971 as the Institute for Art and Urban Resources Inc, to present contemporary art exhibitions within disused urban spaces.
